Brighton boss Graham Potter
Potter led Brighton to a ninth-place finish in the Premier League last season, the club's highest ever top flight finish

The talks with Graham Potter about replacing Thomas Tuchel are expected to begin next week.

Potter has been given permission by the Seagulls to speak to the Blues.

The new owners of the club, who took over in May, lost the players' trust.

Potter has led the Seagulls to fourth place in the table this season after winning four and drawing one of their six games.

In his three seasons in charge, he has led the club to 15th, 16th and ninth places.

His brand of attacking and tactically flexible football has attracted many admirers.

A record amount of money was spent in the summer window, bringing in eight new players.

They were sixth in the league after three wins, one draw and two losses.

The decision to sack the German would have been taken even if they had lost their first game of the season.

Potter was one of the favorites to take over, along with former Spurs and Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino and currentLeicester boss Brendan Rodgers.

The Blues are said to be looking for a long-term manager who shares their vision for a collaborative culture and who will focus on development of all players in the squad.

There's more to come.
