According to a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll, Democrats are in front of Republicans among registered voters, and those who say they will vote this year.

45% of registered voters would vote for the Democratic candidate in their district if the election were held today, compared to 40% who would choose the Republican candidate.

Some of the first national numbers to emerge after the long Labor Day weekend that traditionally marks the beginning of the fall election season are aligned with a shift that has been underway for weeks now. Democrats were shown ahead by a similar margin among registered voters.

According to Five, Democrats have gone from trailing by an average of nearly 3 points as recently as May to leading by 1 point today, despite the fact that high inflation numbers continue to fuel discontent with President Biden.

It's not a guarantee that Democrats will retain control of Congress. The Senate is a toss up and Republicans are favored to take back the House. Two unusual factors are making Democrats more competitive than they might otherwise be, according to a new survey by Yahoo News and YouGov.

The Yahoo News survey used a nationally representative sample of 1,634 US adults to conduct. The sample was weighted according to gender, age, race and education based on the American Community Survey conducted by the US Bureau of the Census. The respondents were selected from the opt-in panel. There is a margin of error.
