A judge has ruled that Ryan Giggs will be retried on allegations that he attacked and controlled his ex-girlfriend.

A judge set a new trial date at a short hearing on Wednesday.

The jury in his first trial failed to reach a verdict after 23 hours of deliberations.

He is accused of abusing his former partner, Kate Greville, causing bodily harm, and using controlling and coercive behavior towards her.

Ms Greville's younger sister, Emma, was also attacked by the ex-Manchester United star.

The accusations against him are false.

He was accused of headbutting Ms Greville at his house in Greater Manchester.

The former Wales manager was accused of hitting her sister with her elbow.

He admitted at his first trial that he was a "love cheat" who had been unfaithful in all his previous relationships, but denied using controlling or coercive behavior.
