The internal design of the PS5 models has been completely changed. Austin Evans discovered a lot of changes to the internals of the PS5 after taking a look at it. Sony has changed the cooling and enclosure of the PS5 in order to use a smaller board.

There are no visible changes to the exterior of the PS5. The PS5 has an updated board The cooling for the PS5 is slightly different because of an additional heat pipe at the rear and a smaller heatsink, and it has shrunk by two inches.

The PS5 has had a redesign of its cooling solution before. Last year, Sony shipped a smaller model. Evans says that the new design of the PS5 is 2.5 pounds lighter than the original design.

A lot of components have been moved around with the new design, and the battery is hidden under the heatsink. Evans says you will have to disassemble a PS5 to replace the battery because it was exposed before.

In this new PS5 mode, the enclosure for the SSDs has changed. It no longer has a PCB through the whole length. It is not clear why Sony has changed this part of the PS5 design.

The PS5 might benefit from all of these changes. Evans claims that the new PS5 model still delivers the same amount of noise and heat as the old model.

Evans said that Sony shrunk everything to make it lighter and cheaper. Sony hiked its PS5 prices outside of the US just as the new PS5 arrived. In the UK, Europe, Japan, China, Australia, Mexico, and Canada, the price of the PS5 has been increased. In Europe, Japan and the UK prices are going up by a lot.
