In order to make Maps even more eco-friendly, the feature will be rolled out in dozens of European countries and you will be able to choose what fuel your car runs on.

The feature was first introduced in the US and Canada last year. France, Ireland, Poland, Spain, and the UK are some of the countries that will see the roll out of the service. Last month, it was introduced in Germany.

Telling Google what type of car you drive could let it give you even more efficient directions.

The ability to tell Maps if your car has a diesel, gas, hybrid, or electric powertrain will allow it to find the most efficient route for your specific type of vehicle. The system was built using information from the US Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the European Environment Agency.

Someone with a hybrid or electric vehicle might get suggestions including surface streets where they can take better advantage of, whereas someone with a diesel-powered vehicle might be routed along a high-speed freeway.
