Holland America Line, which serves at least 4,000 pounds of fish on each Alaska cruise, has earned a certification that the brand sources its fish from responsible and sustainable fishing practices.
There is a certification program for wild-capture fisheries. The organization is owned by the certified seafood collaborative.
Holland America Line serves more than 2,000 pounds of Alaska salmon, 1,000 pounds of Alaska cod, 800 pounds of Alaska halibut, and 500 pounds of Alaska rockfish.
On its Alaska cruises, HAL will serve only local, sustainable seafood. According to the line, it is the first cruise line to get that distinction.
The standards for Norwegian Cruise Line's food have been raised. The line wants to buy all of its chicken from suppliers that meet Global Animal Partnership standards for housing and processing in the US and Canada.
NCLH wants to only buy eggs that are produced in cage-free environments, pork from suppliers that don't use gestation crates, and seafood that is certified.
