Buccaneers Rumors: Shaq Mason Restructures Contract, Saves $6M in Cap Space

The Bucs made a cost-saving move.

The team was able to save $6 million against the cap due to the restructure of the contract of offensive lineman Shaq Mason.

New England drafted Mason in the fourth round of the 2015 draft. He signed a five-year extension with the New England. During his time in New England, he won two Super Bowls.

Mason could add a third championship ring to his collection if he joined the Buccaneers. He was teammates with Tom Brady. He is back for a 22nd season to chase another title after briefly retiring.

The team has faced some early adversity and is expected to be one of the top teams in the conference. Ryan Jensen, a Pro Bowl center, was injured in training camp. The uncertainty on the offensive line was made worse by the loss of Alex Cappa.

As long as Brady's protection holds up, the offense will be able to succeed. It's up to Mason and company to create a clean pocket for the veteran signal- caller.
