William Barr, who was the Attorney General at the time, decried the decision by a federal judge to appoint a special master to review government documents.

The judge who was appointed to her position by Trump in 2020 granted the former president's request that an independent arbiter be appointed to review the documents, many of them highly classified.

Barr said during a Tuesday interview on Fox News that the government should appeal the opinion. It's flawed in many ways.

Cannon's ruling is "unprecedented" in that it prohibits federal prosecutors from further examining seized documents for an ongoing Department of Justice investigation of Trump until the yet-to-be- chosen special master finishes a full review.

After stepping down in the face of the former president's pressure campaign to overturn the results of the 2020 election, Barr said Tuesday that the appointment of a special master wouldn't save Trump from criminal charges.

"I don't think the appointment of a special master is going to hold up, but even if it does, I don't see it fundamentally changing the trajectory." I don't think it changes the game too much as we might have a rain delay.

The fundamental dynamics of the case are set, which is the government has very strong evidence of what it needs to determine whether charges are appropriate, which is government documents were taken, classified information was taken and not handled appropriately, and they are looking into," he said. It's not about the content of the documents, it's about the fact that there were documents there and they were classified, and the fact that they weren't delivered.

Barr was asked if he thought the special master decision would be overturned.

He said that the process "could take several months" to play out" if the DOJ appeals.

In an interview with the New York Times three days before Cannon issued her opinion, Barr did not hesitate to state his opinion on the argument put forth by the former president's lawyers.

He doesn't think a special master is needed.

Trump criticized his former attorney general on his Truth Social platform.

Bill Barr didn't have any guts or glory. He was a weak and pathetic RINO who was so afraid of being impeached that he became a captive to the Radical Left Democrats. Barr didn't fight the way he should have for election integrity. He began as A.G., but faded quickly. Those people will never make America great again.

Barr was asked if he cared about Trump calling him a RINO.

Is anyone who disagrees with him a RINO? That is a Republican. Barr handed out Barry Goldwater literature when he was a teenager.
