Dan Lin in a tux on a red carpet

It seemed as if DC Films might have a leader, but the ship is still without a captain. There were conflicting reports last month that Dan Lin, the producer of It, The Lego Movies, and the Aladdin remake, was being considered for the position of head of DC Films. It seemed like a done deal because of one trade. It seemed less likely due to another. Everyone was correct. Lin was up for the job, but won't take it.

According to CNBC, Lin's decision had to do with his company, Rideback. Lin would have had to leave many of his commitments at Rideback behind to run DC, but he was not willing to do that. According to the report, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav tried to convince the producer that he was the right person to take the job.

According to Zaslav, bringing in a new person to control it all was part of his plan to reestablish DC Films. DC is looking for its very own Kevin Feige who is credited with bringing the multi-billion dollar Marvel Cinematic Universe to life. You can't just put someone into that role and expect the same results. DC Films would probably succeed under Lin's watch. Since the beginning, Feige has been with the company. It's not Iron Man. Feige was an associate producer on X-men. He worked on the Spider-Man movie. When the films were still risky, he was the one making them. He has both the brand and movies in his genes. There is a connection and understanding that is hard to duplicate. This search has been going on for a long time before the latest regime took over.

Whoever takes over DC Films has a lot of work to do. Black Adam will be out in a few weeks, but the next three DC films have their own issues, including many release date shifts, to go along with them. Upcoming projects, like new Superman and Wonder Woman films, are still up in the air. Zaslav wants a kind of success that is years and years away.
