Montrezl Harrell, a free agent center, is going to sign a two-year, $5.2 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers.
While playing for the LA Clippers, he was the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year, and he is now with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Sources said the agreement was finalized on Tuesday with the player option for the 24th season.
The Philadelphia 76ers ranked 28th in bench scoring a year ago, trailing only Chicago and Toronto.
When he was charged with possession of marijuana in a Kentucky courthouse last week, the ability to sign him became simpler. If he stays out of trouble, the charge will be wiped from his record after a year.
According to sources, James Harden played a big part in recruiting Montreuil to the 76ers, selling him on a reunion of their time together with the Houston Rockets. The salary- cap space was created by Harden's willingness to negotiate a new deal with the 76ers.
A year ago, he averaged 11 points and 4.9 rebound for the Charlotte Hornets. He has played in seven NBA seasons since leaving Louisville.
Only two players have scored at least 5,000 points off the bench over the past five seasons, and that's Harrell. The Utah Jazz guard is one of the two.
