Donald Trump will hold a rally in Ohio for Republican Senate nominee J.D.
Part of Ryan's home district will be where Trump will hold his rally on September 17th.
This will be the second post-primary rally from the former president, he held an event featuring Pennsylvania Republican Senate nominee Mehmet Oz on Saturday.
According to the latest RealClearPolitics polling average, Vance leads Ryan by just 3.7 percentage points, well below the eight points Trump carried the state by in the 2020 presidential election.
The Democrat's campaign said it raised $9.1 million in the second quarter, while Ryan's campaign said it only raised $2.3 million.
Ryan has been working hard on the campaign trail, pitching himself as a moderate populist that can appeal to Trump voters, despite being criticized for making very few public appearances. Ryan told NBC News this summer that Democrats aren't right about everything, even though his House votes have aligned with Biden's positions. Republicans have grown so concerned about the race, that a super PAC connected with Senate Majority LeaderMitch McConnell (R-Ky.) announced last month it plans to flood $28 million into Ohio. The Republican Party has dominated the state in recent years and putting such a large investment in it is a sign of growing pessimism.
Republicans were expecting a red wave in November that would give the party control of the House and Senate, but a series of unexpected wins by Biden this summer and an unpopular Supreme Court ruling have hurt the GOP. Democrats are favored to retain control of the Senate.
McConnell was concerned about the quality of Republican Senate nominees. Several candidates, including Georgia nominee Herschel Walker, have never before run for elected office, according to pundits.
