Mitchell Trubisky will be the starting quarterback for the PittsburghSteelers in the first game of the season.
According to the coach,Mitch Trubisky is our starting quarterback and our captain.
Ian Rapoport wrote about the decision.
Ian Rapoport @RapSheet#Steelers coach Mike Tomlin names Mitch Trubisky the starting QB, saying, “We're really comfortable with what Mitch has shown us.”
As for rookie Kenny Pickett, he said, “I'm really pleased with the growth and development of Kenny. That's why he's listed as QB2.”
The starting spot was up for grabs in camp.
The favorite to win the job was Trubisky, who signed a two-year contract with the Steelers in March. He was the backup to Josh Allen in Buffalo in the 2021 season.
Ben Roethlisberger's backup for the last four seasons had been unspectacular, but that was due to the fact that he had been unspectacular. His experience in Mike Tomlin's system gave him a head start in terms of knowledge, but he hasn't offered much in-game production to show he's a quality quarterback.
It was always expected that he would at least start the regular season behind one of the veterans.
Since Ted Marchibroda was drafted in the first round in1953, the team has taken six quarterbacks in the first round. The team has taken three players from the University of Pittsburgh in the first round.

The franchise record book was reset as part of Roethlisberger's Hall of Fame career. Two Super Bowls were brought home by him.
Trubisky should be upgraded over Roethlisberger. He offers mobility that the veteran didn't have in his prime and he should be able to stretch the field with his arm.
