Club Med has closed its all-inclusive resort in Port St.
The resort is owned by Holiday Village of Sandpiper Inc.
The 335-room resort will be renovated and turned into a hotel and sports academy.
According to Club Med, the company's sales team is reaching out to travel advisors that have clients booked for a stay at the Club Med Sandpiper Bay after September 5. Clients can change their dates of stay, apply their reservation to another Club Med resort, request a future travel credit or request a refund if they choose to do so.
The Club Med Sandpiper Bay has been open for more than four decades. The all-inclusive, which spans more than 200 acres, has a variety of fitness oriented activities and sports facilities.
Carolyne Doyon, president and CEO of Club Med North America and the Caribbean, said in a statement that they were grateful to the travel advisor community. We will continue to develop new destinations across the globe, including here in North America.
As Club Med prepares to open a new U.S. property in Utah, it has decided to close the Club Med Sandpiper Bay. The Utah mountain resort is expected to open in the year 2049.
