The Brazilian government is going to fight with Apple over its lack of charging points. The Justice Ministry in Brazil ordered Apple to stop selling models that don't ship with a charger after hitting the company with a 12 million reais fine. The cancellation would affect the models of the phone. Since 2020, the iPhone 12 hasn't had a charging port.

The decision by Apple and other device makers to stop selling accessories for their devices is an attempt to limit the amount of junk in users cabinets. Around 11,000 metric tons of e-waste can be found in Europe alone, according to data released by the European Parliament. Brazilian officials don't believe that the reason for the lack of charging is because of discrimination. The officials said that the incomplete products are due to the lack of an essential part.

Apple isn't the only one here. Several of its models do not include earbuds or a charging port, while the Pixel 6 did not have a charging port. After poking fun at Apple, the company stopped including charging bricks with its phones.

Brazil's new rules may not apply to these companies. Apple has less of a presence in Brazil than it does in the U.S.

Apple did not respond right away.

Brazil pushing against a wider trend

Regulators in other parts of the world are trying to limit the number of unnecessary chargers produced. After years of debate, European lawmakers reached an agreement in June that will allow for the use of a standard for charging devices in the region. Users would only need one type of charger for their armory of electronics if the process of standardization were to happen. Around the same time, another report states that Apple is testing compatibility with theusb-c on its phones.

Europe is not the only part of the world that wants to change their charging methods. The U.S. Commerce Department needs to come up with its own rules for a universal charging standard. The U.S. senators have a rule that limits different types of charges.

Lawmakers wrote in the letter that as specialized chargers become obsolete with the introduction of new products, and as consumers change the brand of phone or device that they use, their outdated chargers are usually thrown away. e-waste can harm the environment and degrade the air we breathe.

It's not convenient for customers to be charged as it is right now.
