Jake Paul is going to face a combat sports luminary.
Paul's Most Valuable promotions announced Tuesday that the prizefighter will fight Anderson Silva in a boxing match in October. The bout will last eight minutes. Silva holds the record for most consecutive victories in the UFC with 16.
"The plan is for me to fight at 185 pounds and that's what I wanted this fight at given it was the weight Anderson Silva fought at during his reign as the most dominant UFC champion ever." The team from Anderson asked if we could set the weight at more than I wanted. I agree to his request because of the level of professionalism and precision.
The fight between Paul and Tommy Fury was supposed to take place at New York's Madison Square Garden, but the Englishman withdrew due to travel issues. The bout was canceled because of weight issues with Hasim Rahman Jr., the son of the former boxing champ.
Paul has fought a former UFC fighter four times. Paul knocked out Ben Askren and went on to knockout Tyron Woodley in December. Paul did not fight after that.
Silva has a better resume than both Askren and Woodley. He was the best pound-for-pound MMA fighter in the world for stretches during his title reign from 2006 to 2013 and one of the most creative knockout artists in that sport.
Silva's best win as a pro came over Chavez last year. In an exhibition boxing match in May, Silva looked good. He knocked out a UFC champ in the ring.
Silva said that everything has its purpose. "Anything can come by chance." I would like to thank God, my family, and my team for giving me this opportunity to continue doing what I love the most. This will be the biggest combat event of the year and will make history. On October 29th, see you.
Prominent people in combat sports, including UFC president Dana White, have been critical of Paul's opponents and White has suggested that Paul should fight Silva, which would be more of a real fight.
Anderson "The Spider" Silva is the most versatile fighter the world has ever seen. He showed the world why he is considered the greatest fighter of all time when he outclassed Chavez. Jake Paul will not fight Anderson Silva according to every expert. Jake Paul will lose to Anderson Silva. Jake Paul is in a fight with Anderson Silva. It's an honor to share the ring with a legend. I will walk into the ring, touch gloves with a living legend and do my best to kill 'The Spider' on October 29th.
