The former Scotland international said he was shocked to be diagnosed with the disease.

The man who won 70 caps for his country was told in February.

He says he's back to normal three months after having his prostrate removed.

"It's difficult because when you're told you've got cancer, you fall over," he said.

I had to go and look for it, I didn't know what was happening.

He made his international debut in 1992 at the age of 20.

He scored 13 tries for Scotland over an 11 year period before retiring.

He said that he went to get a checkup. The guy told me that his hormones are fine, but his PSA is high.

I wanted to know what that meant. He said you should probably be checked for prostrate issues.

Within a few months, I had a biopsy and they said there was something there, but we'll just keep an eye on it.

He said that 40% of your friends don't know you have it.

I was diagnosed with prostrate cancer in February and it was a big shock.

'Extremely lucky'

He said he was pretty battered after the surgery, but is now doing well.

He said that he had to make some decisions.

Do you take it out, or do you go for radiation? I took it out.

Three months after the surgery, I'm almost back to normal. I'm very fortunate.

Scott Hastings, a former Scotland international, was diagnosed with cancer in May.

The former British and Irish Lions player is currently receiving treatment for a cancer.
