Cropin is backed by investors including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The launch of Cropin Cloud was announced today. Cropin's other products are live in 92 countries with over 250 B2B customers. It claims that the world has the largest crop knowledge graph.
According to Krishna Kumar, the founder and CEO of Cropin, the agriculture industry doesn't have access to a unified platform that can enable and help build a wide variety of solutions, even as it faces disruptions caused by climate change.
He said that the tools to capture and share data are sorely missing.
Cropin Cloud can be used by many different types of businesses. Farmers and other stakeholders in the food value chain can access tools for earth observation, remote sensor and data and machine learning through three sub- platforms.
Cropin has a leadership group.
Global farming operations management, food safety measures, supply chain visibility, predictability and risk management, tracing food from the farm to table, research and development and production management are some of the uses of Cropin Apps. Farmers are able to track carbon emissions.
Cropin Data Hub gathers data from a variety of sources for analysis. Cropin Intelligence uses 22 contextual deep- learning and artificial intelligence models to help agribusinesses with data points like crop detection, crop stage identification, yield estimates, irrigation scheduling, pest and disease prediction, nitrogen and harvest date estimation.
Some examples of how Cropin's technology has been used include the use of the company's SmartFarm Plus app to record information about how mature trees were, issues they were facing and productivity levels. The data was used by the app to give location-specific advice.
Cropin provided insights about the weather, crop management, pest and disease forecasts, nutrient management and soil and water management practices to the World Bank and Government of India. According to Cropin, this resulted in a 30% increase in yield and productivity.
Cropin has raised a total of $33 million since it was launched. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and CDC Group are two of the investors. Cropin aims to raise between $50 million and $75 million in the next six months, according to Kumar.
Cropin has subsidiaries in the US, Singapore and the Netherlands. The co-founder and COO moved to the Netherlands earlier this year. According to Kumar, Cropin has grown 2.5 times over the past few years and expects to grow this year as well. Kumar said that the launch of Cropin Cloud will be a game-changing event for the company.
