Palin urges Begich to drop House bid; Begich declines

On a holiday weekend more than a decade ago she announced plans to resign as Alaska's governor, SarahPalin called on her opponent to drop out of the race.

The deadline for withdrawing from the election was Monday. The campaign is confident that they are on a positive trajectory to win in November, despite the criticism they received during the campaign.

He said thatRanked choice voting showed that she doesn't have enough support from Alaskans to win an election and that her performance in the Special was embarrassing.

A special election was held in August to fill the seat of the late Don Young. The results were certified Friday. Heading into the tabulation rounds, Peltola was the leader in first choice votes, followed by Alaska's governor and a third person. The candidate that was eliminated first was the one that had been eliminated.

More than half of the voters who ranked a second candidate chose Peltola and less than half chose Alaska's governor.

Josh Wilson said that Peltola will be sworn in on September 13th.

The winner of the November election will serve a two year term. Libertarian Chris Bye will join them after Republican Tara Sweeney dropped out of the race.

Voters in 2020 approved changes to Alaska's elections process, scrapping party primaries in favor of open primaries in which the top four vote getters, regardless of party affiliation, advance to the general election. The system was used for the first time in the House election.

The news conference at her lakeside home in Wasilla was disrupted by the noise from floatplanes.

She defended her decision to step down as governor in July of 2009. Being governor was a job she wanted to have, but she decided to resign. She said that the ethics complaints had become distraction.

She urged him to drop out of the race after questioning his ability to win an election.

It wouldn't make sense for her to quit. "You will be able to see us not just talking the talk but walking the walk that we've not yet begun to fight" she said.
