Black Lives Matter Grassroots filed a lawsuit against the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation on Friday, accusing an executive of stealing $10 million from the organization.
According to the lawsuit, the BLM Global Network Foundation board member diverted the money into his own account.
The complaint says that Bowers was hired to collect donations for the BLM movement.
In less than eighteen months, the foundation has been forced to undergo multiple investigations by the IRS and various state attorneys general.
He continued to betray the public trust when more than 300 movement leaders demanded that he resign from GNF.
Three organizers came together to create a Black-centered political movement that led to the founding of the Global Network Foundation. Black Lives Matter Grassroots is associated with the foundation that represents all BLM chapters.
Melina Abdullah, co-director of BLM Grassroots, said at a press conference last week that the Global Network Foundation had been stripped of its power and had been defaming it.
She said that the people who built the foundation have been taken away. The Global Network Foundation is led by a consultant who paid himself millions of dollars in a single year.
According to the complaint, he stole control of the Global Network Foundation and became its only board member and officer. Within eight months, he made more than $2 million from the Global Network Foundation.
A request for comment was not responded to by the man.
The BLM organization has had financial issues in the past.
According to a court filing, the former executive director of the Global Network Foundation gave her brother $840,000 from funds received through donations.
Matthew said that Paul had received money earmarked for professional security services.
According to an artist description, Paul is a graffiti artist. According to a New York Magazine article, he was the head of security for the BLM.
