Mitch Trubisky got a new title: team captain.

Trubisky was one of five team captains along with running back Najee Harris, defensive lineman T.J. Watt, and safety/ special teamer Miles Killebrew.

Trubisky said it was a great honor. It means a lot when you are voted by your peers. It definitely means a lot that my teammates voted me captain, I just came in here to lead by example and earn the trust of my teammates.

Mike Tomlin is expected to announce the Week 1 starter on Tuesday, and Trubisky didn't reveal his head coach's plan Monday.

Trubisky said anything you want can be assumed. You won't hear from me when the announcement comes out. We just do our job.

Trubisky was a team captain during his time at North Carolina.

Trubisky said it was just him being himself. It's part of the quarterback position. You're leading the offense, you're leading by example and you want to be the leader of the whole team. If I do it the way this guy does it, we'll be headed in the right direction. I try to do that on a daily basis.

Trubisky has shown leadership qualities on and off the field since he signed with the Steelers. During the off-season, Trubisky invited many members of the offense to his house in Florida for a bonding weekend.

It kind of had us believe in him when he opened his home up to us.

Trubisky is not the only captain who goes the extra mile in the off season. Harris flew in to visit Trubisky after he signed a two-year deal with the Pittsburgh.

Trubisky said that Harris came in and talked about what they were going to do this year. From the beginning, he was there for me. People don't see the small things that leaders do on a daily basis. He is who he is because of the deeper relationships he has with his teammates.

Harris and Killebrew are both captains for the first time. For the second time in his career, Watt is a captain.
