When the devices are unveiled this week, there will be no more than a few rumors about the lineup.

The A16 Bionic chip, an always-on display, pill and hole-punch cutouts, and a taller display are expected to be features of the iPhone 14 Pro models. These features were not always set in stone because of the evolving nature of rumors.

There are a number of major iPhone 14 rumors that have been rejected, revised, or discredited in the past due to new information.

Complete Redesign and Flush Rear Cameras

Jon Prosser leaked renders purporting to depict an all-new design for the iPhone 14 Pro Max. According to Prosser's information, the iPhone 14 Pro would feature a thicker case, round volume buttons, and a redesign of the speaker and microphone grilles.

Early in the rumor cycle, it was rumored that the design of the iPhone 14 Pro wouldn't be the same as the 13th iteration.

The design of the iPhone 14 Pro is expected to be the same as the design of the iPhone 13 Pro, with a few differences, such as a larger rear camera array and more rounded corners. The design of the iPhone 14 Pro is similar to the design of the iPhone 13 Pro.

Titanium Frame for 'Pro' Models

According to a report from JP Morgan Chase, titanium could be used in the iPhone 14 Pro to create a stronger, lighter, and more scratch resistant design. Prosser continued the rumor in the renders of the new phone.

Despite the benefits of titanium, it appears that Apple is going to keep using a steel frame for the next iteration of the device.

Under-Display Face ID

The "hole-punch" cutout for the camera was rumored to be the reason for the switch to the new model. Ross Young suggested in September 2021 that the iPhone 14 Pro could feature Apple's first under-display Face ID technology. The leaker claimed that Face ID would be moved to under the device's display and that the camera cutout would be small.

The first analyst to suggest that the iPhone 14 Pro would feature hole-punch and pill-shaped cutouts was Young. It seems like the iPhone 14 lineup won't include any of Apple's under- display technology.

Separated 'Pill and Hole-Punch' Display Cutout Design

The "hole-punch and pill-shaped" display cutouts are rumored to be part of the iPhone 14 Pro. Most observers assumed that the cutouts would be separated from the device. The previous idea of how the front of the device would look was shattered by the fact that the display cutouts will be a single pill shape. The "pill" is rumored to have an integration with the mobile operating system.

A16 Bionic Chip for Non-'Pro' Models

After the launch of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, Apple split the lineup into two, one with the standard chip and one with the A16 chip. The move further distinguishes the "Pro" and non-"Pro" iPhone models and may have been triggered by supply chain issues.

A16 Bionic Chip Made With More Advanced 4nm Process

According to some reports, the A16 Bionic would be the first Apple chip to be fabricated with a 4nm process. The A16 is expected to be based on the TSMC process.

As the third iteration of Apple's 5nm iPhone chips, the A16 is unlikely to deliver a massive performance delta over the previous A14 Bionic and A15 Bionic chips, but is still likely to bring sufficient performance and efficiency improvements to the processor and graphics card to justify being branded as The chip will have better thermal management, according to one rumor.

No 'iPhone 14 mini'

When Apple introduced the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini, many assumed that the display sizes and form factors of the lineup would remain the same as they were when the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were first introduced. The small form factor iPhone is set to end after just two years after lackluster sales of the 13 mini. According to reports, Apple is going to stop offering the new 5.4-inch models in favor of a larger model.

iPhone 14 'Max' Name

Ever since expectations of an " iPhone 14 mini" faded, the " iPhone 14 Max" has been expected to sit above the iPhone 14 with a 6.7-inch display.

The device was expected to be called the "iPhone 14 Max" in line with the high-end model of the device. With the likes of Mark Gurman now using the name in his latest newsletter, it appears that there will be no " iPhone 14 Max" after all.
