House of the Dragon is a welcome addition to the roster and a worthy expansion of the Game ofThrones universe, despite fears that this could end up being some cheap cash in to try to expand the lifespan of the original series that ended on a sour note.
One of the reasons House of the Dragon is doing so well is that it is creating fan-favorite characters out of its cast almost instantly, and some clear villains you love to hate.
If the show wanted a compelling lead, it found one in Milly Alcock's portrayal of Rhaenyra, who destroys her rivals with a quick attack. If the love for Alcock's Rhaenyra will transfer to Emma D'Arcy's Rhaenyra when she's older, that's the only real question.
It is hard not to root for Daemon Targaryen even if he is a wildly unstable, violent villain. Daemon offered himself as bait to lure out the Crabfeeder, which speaks to both his insanity and his desire to be free from his brother, as well as the fact that he has been like this since the beginning. The man is killing it here.
Viserys Targaryen is on the other side of the spectrum and is designed to be a kind king. Thanks to Paddy Considine, he is a great character with a lot of depth to him. He is a great character who is playing his role as not-great King very well without knowing anything about the storyline.
You hate the Hightowers. Otto suggested that Viserys marry Rhaenyra to her two year-old brother, his grandson, or Allicent tried to smooth things over with Rhaenyra after marrying her father and having two kids with him. You don't like them They may not be ruthless killers, but they are snakes, and as Allicent gets older, I am looking forward to seeing her take on a more sinister role.
Three episodes is how long this is. It took Game of thrones even longer to get its characters established and create them that you could root for or against. Some of the things that were done in the series, like taking initially hated characters like Jamie and redeeming them over the course of the series, never worked. It feels like Rhaenyra has a bigger following than Jon Snow did in the show.
Can't wait to see how this all plays out in season 1, and now season 2, and things are going so well, I have faith in other future spinoffs now.
