Ben Roethlisberger endorsed Mitchell Trubisky as the starting quarterback.

The two-time Super Bowl champion and six-time Pro Bowler explained why he believes Trubisky should be the team's starter.

Brandon Wallace of SteelerNation.com transcribed Roethlisberger's words.

I think Kenny Pickett is a rookies. The first round was where he was drafted. He had a good preseason. I thought he did a good job. It would be good for guys like him. Mitchell Trubisky is the starter according to me. It's time for him to start. He has been around for a while. I think he gives you the best chance to win at the moment. Kenny has done a good job.

Roethlisberger said something.

If you watched him in the preseason, you wouldn't think he's a rookies. When the regular season starts, I think he has done a great job. I think it would benefit him, and I think almost all rookies would benefit from sitting behind a veteran for a while.

Roethlisberger said that Trubisky should be a mentor to Pickett during his first year in the league. The franchise should be patient even if Trubisky has a bad start.

The people are excited for Kenny. I hope the fans don't boo him the first time he doesn't play well because he's a Pitt kid and they're excited for him. Give him time to keep going. It will be fascinating to see.

In March, the Steelers signed Trubisky to a two-year, $14.3 million deal and made him their starting quarterback. Questions about his starting status and whether or not the franchise would turn to the rookies as QB1 were raised when the team selected Pickett.

The starting job was Trubisky's to lose despite Pickett's strong preseason play, according to an earlier report. In addition to being the team's starting quarterback in all three preseason games, he has also served as the team's starter throughout the entire season.

He spent the first four years of his career with the Bears and showed flashes of his potential despite being inconsistent.

In his best season in Chicago, Trubisky earned a Pro Bowl selection after going 11-3 in 14 starts and completing 66.6% of his passes for 3,223 yards and 24 touchdown. He also scored three times.

The Bears declined Trubisky's fifth-year option and he ended up with the Bills. He completed 6-of-8 passes for 75 yards and one touchdown in six appearances for the franchise.

Considering Trubisky's level of experience, it's no wonder Roethlisberger thinks he should be the quarterback. He wants his former team to win as many games as possible in 2022, and he will get his chance in the future.
