LSU's top offensive weapon became a problem. Daniels threw a perfect ball against tight 1-on-1 coverage, but he couldn't catch it. Daniels threw the ball to Boutte as the wide receiver ran towards the goal line, but Boutte wasn't paying attention and the ball went off his body Boutte dropped two passes and finished his gaffes.
Before defensive tackle Maason Smith injured his leg after a first-quarter play, there was talk of Kelly instilling more discipline to the team. Ali was thrown out for targeting. FSU scored on a reverse flea flicker pass. Ontario Wilson scored on a 39-yard touchdown after LSU's safety pursued the reverse. There were multiple penalties on the same play.
Ed Orgeron replaced Kelly on the sideline, and the Tigers looked a lot worse for wear.
Norvell tried to get LSU to win. His decision to go for fourth down instead of a chip-shot field goal cost him the game.
Florida State fans had to hold their breath at the end of the second half. LSU's line parted so that Brown could block the extra point.
