Albert Pujols is nearing the end of his MLB career, and he's one step closer to achieving history before he hangs up his bat.
Pujols hit his 695th home run on Sunday, putting him one shy of tying Alex Rodriguez for fourth all time.
Pujols' two-run blast in the bottom of the eighth gave the St. Louis a 2-0 win over the Chicago Cubs.
The starter for the Cards was Miles Mikolas, who pitched eight shut outs. The win completed a three-game sweep for the Cards, who have won seven of their last eight games.
Pujols has been on a late-season home run binge. He has 16 home runs this season and nine of them came after the beginning of August. He has a chance to become the fourth player in MLB history to reach 700 career home runs if he keeps hitting like this.
With less than a month left in the season, the Cards are in control of the NL Central with an eight-game lead over the Brewers. As the playoffs approach, there may be more chances for Pujols to be in the starting lineup.
The first game of the four-game series will be on Monday.
