Climber falls 900 feet to her death when rock gives way on Colorado peak, sheriff says

The woman fell to her death while climbing Capitol Peak.

The woman fell while climbing alone. The Pitkin County Sheriff's Office released a news release.

The woman's body was flown to Pierre Lakes Basin by helicopter after rescuers scout the terrain and close down trails.

Rescuers took her body out and turned it over to the coroner.

According to a release from the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office and Mountain Rescue Aspen, the loose, rotting terrain can lead to serious injuries or death.

Capitol Peak is west of Aspen and 160 miles southwest of Denver.
