Hockey's greatest rivalry was on display as Canada defeated Team USA in the women's world championship final.

Goalie Ann-Renee Desbiens made 19 saves in the win, including some in the final moments of the third period, while forward Brianne Jenner scored two goals in less than two minutes.

At times, you have to rely on goaltending and blocked shots. We were able to get it done.

Canada now has more gold medals for women than the Americans. The U.S. and Canada have won gold in women's worlds every time. The U.S. defeated Finland for the gold medal in the tournament.

Team USA had won eight of the past 10 meetings with Canada, and had won gold in five of the past six tournaments. Canada has won gold in the IIHF world championship in back-to-back years, following their gold medal win over the Americans at the Beijing Olympics.

The teams had a low number of shots in the first period and it was the first time that had happened in a long time. Team Canada roared to life in the second period thanks to Caitlyn. The first goal of the game was scored at 9:30 of the second period by Caitlyn.

Canada was given a boost when Hannah Brandt went off for boarding. The power play gave Canada a 2-0 lead. The U.S. scored a power play goal with 21 seconds remaining in the second period, and it was the winner.

The Americans pushed in the third period. Desbiens made a lot of saves, while Poulin blocked a shot to preserve the win.

The loss was Team USA's first at the world championships after they went perfect in the preliminary round and playoffs.
