The USA Basketball team needed a win on Sunday at the AmeriCup tournament to make it to the finals.

Until it rained.

The US led Venezuela 48-21 at the half. The Geraldo Magalhes Sports Gymnasium was leaking due to the heavy rain.

The game was canceled due to technical difficulties in the arena, according to the International Basketball Federation. A rescheduling date and time will be announced within the next few hours.

The US and Venezuela will play their last group-stage games on Monday.

The Dominican Republic will play the Virgin Islands in a later game at the same arena as Argentina plays Puerto Rico.

The United States entered Group C play with an 0-1 mark after falling to Mexico on Friday. The Americans will need to win at least one of their three games in order to advance to the quarterfinals.

Earlier Sunday, Mexico beat Panama to get to the next round.

After giving up the first basket, the Americans went on an 18-2 run and never looked back. In the first half, the U.S. shot 50% and held a 24-0 lead in points from the 3-point line.

Sword had 12 points in the first half for the U.S., and 11 of the 12 Americans had scored by the time the game was stopped.
