The IRS admitted this week that it made a mistake. According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, up to 120,000 people's information was exposed.
The data was posted by the IRS. The IRS accidentally published some of the Form 990-Ts for non-501(c)(3) organizations.
Similar information was inadvertently published for a subset of non-501(c)(3)s, which are not subject to public disclosure. Social Security numbers, account-holder information and individual income tax returns are not included in the data. Individual names or business contact information may be included in the data.
According to the report from the Journal, the information could be downloaded for a period of time before the IRS fixed the mistake. The IRS said in its statement that it was still looking at the situation.
You will soon find out if your info was exposed. The people will be contacted by the IRS in the next few weeks.
