Former U.S. President Donald Trump speaks during a rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, U.S., September 3, 2022.
Donald Trump came out swinging, calling the FBI's search a "travesty"

At his first rally since the FBI searched his resort, Donald Trump referred to President Joe Biden as an "enemy of the state".

The ex-president accused Mr Biden of trying to get the FBI against him.

Mr Trump claimed that the raid was one of the most shocking abuses of power by any administration.

He was campaigning for Republican candidates.

Dr Mehmet Oz is running for the US Senate and Doug Mastriano is running for governor of Pennsylvania.

The rally on Saturday night was about one person, and both spoke for a short time.

The first part of Mr Trump's speech was about the FBI investigation.

Top secret files were recovered from his personal office after the FBI searched his office.

The president is being investigated over his handling of classified records.

False claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him, attacks on rivals in the Democratic Party, and promises to "save our country" were some of the themes that the former president returned to.

He wanted people who dealt drugs to be sentenced to death.

Punching back at the Department of Justice (DoJ)

The former president is involved in a legal tussle with federal authorities over a cache of classified documents.

Some top secret White House documents were taken and stored by Mr Trump at his Florida home.

He may have interfered with the investigation into the documents.

On Saturday, Mr Trump spun investigations and attacks against him as a witch hunt.

He called the FBI's search of his home in Mar-a-Lago a betrayal.

The former president has cast himself and his supporters as political outsiders in order to build his appeal.

Mr Trump said that he and his supporters were being attacked by the FBI and Department of Justice.

He drew boos from the crowd when he said that it was not just his home that was raided.

Supporters think Trump was 'set up'

The crowd was with him when the FBI searched his house.

Even though Pennsylvania went for Mr Biden in the election, this region still supported Mr Trump.

The two supporters bought the "Defund the FBI" T-shirts.

Gail McCloskey said she thought the FBI visit was a setup.

The woman who drove four hours from Buffalo, New York to see Mr Trump said they were just going after him for hate.

Mrs Borg was asked if she believed any of the accusations against Mr Trump, including that he incited a violent mob to storm the US Capitol last year, that he pressured the president of Ukraine to investigate his political enemies, or that he lied about election fraud.

She said that they had never received any proof.

If the justice department charged Mr Trump, the country would be torn apart, said her companion.

"It will be crowded out there, the streets will be full, I don't condone violence, but I fear that any criminal charges against the former president could spark civil unrest," she said.

At one point, Mr Trump claimed that the investigation into his possession of government documents was going to produce a backlash.

His visit to Pennsylvania is a strategic choice

In Pennsylvania, Mr Trump's name won't be on the ballot this year.

He endorsed the far-right election conspiracy theorist Mr Mastriano for governor after his surprise primary win.

Dr Mehmet Oz spoke for less than two minutes

They will be seen as a referendum on the strength of Mr Trump's endorsement and the political ideologies he's unleashed on the Republican Party.

It is possible that the outcome will have consequences for the year 2024.

The door is wide open despite Mr Trump not announcing a new campaign.

  • There is a guide to the US mid-term elections.

The Republican Party will see it as a sign of Mr. Trump's continued dominance of their base voters.

They might have a chance at the White House if they lose.

The people who attended the rally were more enthusiastic about Mr Mastriano than they were about Dr. Oz.

Mr Mastriano was brought to the stage. Over an hour into the rally, Dr Oz was invited to join Mr. Trump.

A person in the back of the crowd shouted "he's a Rino!" or "Republican in name only" after Dr Oz spoke.

Both parties eye Pennsylvania

The state is important to Democrats. They want John Fetterman to be the next lieutenant governor.

The governor's race has taken on more significance after Mr Mastriano's win. He was involved in the effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Pennsylvania.

He would have a lot of power if he won the governorship.

President Biden held several high-profile events in the state in recent days to help whip up the Democratic base in opposition to him.

On August 30th he gave a major speech about guns and public safety and two days later he gave a prime time speech in Philadelphia.

He said that Trump's ideology posed a threat to American democracy.

Not every Republican is a Maga Republican according to Mr Biden.

Donald Trump and the Maga Republicans are a threat to this country because the Republican Party is dominated by them.

On Saturday, Mr Trump said that Mr Biden's speech was "vicious and divisive".
