In the minutes before the data link with the plane was lost, its altitude had plummeted and it had deviated from side to side after the plane ran out of fuel.

On Sunday, the Austrian-registered aircraft took off from Jerez, Spain. The flight path indicated that the pilot was in complete control of the aircraft until it flew directly over the West German city and then across Germany and towards the Baltic Sea.

Fighter jets were sent from Germany andDenmark after air traffic control failed to get a reply from the pilot.

A rescue helicopter was dispatched to the scene of the crash, according to the Swedish newspaper. There are four people on the plane.

Several helicopter and aircraft were being sent to the crash site.

The pilot had previously reported problems with the cabin pressure on the aircraft, according to sources. A man and woman and their daughter were with the pilot.

Air traffic controllers lost contact with the pilot before the plane left Spanish air space, according to the newspaper.
