Cyrus Mistry, the former chairman of the Indian conglomerate, died in a car accident on his way to Mumbai, six years after he was ousted from the helm of the company.

According to officials in the Indian state of Maharashtra, Mistry was killed in a road accident.

According to a police official, Mistry died after his car crashed into a road divider.

One of the three people in the car was dead and the other two were injured.

Police have been ordered to investigate the accident.

The Shapoorji Pallonji Group is based in Mumbai and has been in the family for 156 years. Forbes estimates that the senior Mistry was worth about fifteen billion dollars when he died. The majority of the Mistry family's fortune came from holding the largest minority stake in the company. Cyrus Mistry became the chairman of the company in 2012 and was not a member of the family. A yearslong feud between two of India's most powerful business families was caused by the ousting of Mistry in 2016 after he faced criticism for his performance. The Supreme Court of India upheld the removal of Mistry from the chairmanship of the group. Mistry was born in Ireland and is survived by his wife and two sons.

The news of Mistry's death was shared by Indian officials and businessmen on social media. Modi called Mistry a promising business leader who believed in India's economic prowess.

The Indian construction pioneer died at the age of 93.
