Bryce Young goes off for 6 total TDs to lead Bama's 55-0 rout (1:29)

Young picked up where he left off with five touchdown passes and a score on the ground as Alabama defeated Utah State. There is a time and a place for it.

12:08 AM ET

Young scored six times in Alabama's season opener against Utah State.

Tua Tagovailoa was the only player in Alabama history to score six or more touchdown in a game. Tagovailoa had seven touchdown in a game.

Young had 195 yards, five touchdown and no turnovers. In the first half, he scored all of his touchdown passes.

He ran five times for 100 yards and a touchdown, his career high. He had a career high for rushing against Tennessee.

Young said he tries to do whatever he can to help the team. That was fascinating. It wasn't something I was thinking about.

Young didn't know how to break long runs. He had a long run.

He said it was a new location for him to make cuts.

Young is trying to become the first back-to-back winner of the prestigious award since 1975.

"I thought he played really, really well, even though he missed a few reads in the passing game," said Nick Saban.

Young has done a great job preparing for the season, and his leadership has beenphenomenal.

"He did a great job and we couldn't be more pleased with his performance."

Next weekend, Alabama is going to Texas. Steve Sarkisian is the head coach of the Longhorns and he was the offensive coach for the Alabama team.

Young threw two touchdown passes to Burton.

Alabama reloaded via the transfer portal, adding Burton from Georgia, as well as wide receiver Tyler Harrell from Louisville, running back Jahmyr Gibbs from Georgia Tech, offensive lineman Tyler Steen from Commodores, and defensive back Eli Ricks from LSU.

Will Anderson Jr., who won the Bronko Nagurski Award as the best defensive player in college football, is back for the Tide.

Anderson had five tackles and one tackle for loss. One quarterback was hurrying.

It was the largest margin of victory in a season opener. The previous records were 46 points against Western Carolina and USC.
