The world for wealthy tourists not only extends to space, but also the deep sea was highlighted in new footage released by a commercial exploration company.

The one-minute clip was shared by OceanGate, a company that takes tourists into the depths of the ocean for free. Guests paid $250,000 for a submarine to go down to the bottom of the ocean to look at the Titanic.

The hulking ship was found upright and split in two sections less than 400 miles off Newfoundland in 1985 and has fascinated historians. The president of OceanGate said that private exploration was needed to keep the fascination going.

Mr. Rush said that no public entity would pay for a return to the Titanic. There are other sites that are better for science.

OceanGate is going to lead another expedition to the site in the year 2023. The dives take about eight hours and include 2.5 hours each way to descend and ascend.

The site, which has become a reef that is home to many organisms, has been given context by scientists and historians. High-definition cameras are used to document the wreck and capture it in detail.

Some people don't like the high-quality footage of the ship's bow, anchor and anchor chain.

The curator of maritime history at the National Museum of American History was not a fan of the footage and said that the OceanGate trips were paid for by people.

"I don't object to commercial exploitation because they're not touching or damaging the wreck." There isn't much to be learned from Titanic that we don't already know.

For decades, there has been a debate about who should go to the wreck.

ethical questions about disturbing a site that may also function as a graveyard were raised due to the deaths of more than 1,500 passengers of the Titanic. 700 people are still alive.

Historians and scientists oppose attempts to remove artifacts from the site. A group of scientists wrote a letter to a court in support of the US government's attempt to stop an underwater company from attempting to recover a telegraph from the wreck.

The company R.M.S. Titanic was approved by a federal judge in May 2020. The president of R.M.S. Titanic said in an email that the company is looking at images from the wreck site to see if the original recovery plan will work.

Don Lynch, the official historian for the Titanic Historical Society, did not like for Titanic artifacts to be brought up, but he was impressed with the new OceanGate footage.

He said that the more photographs they take, the more they will discover things they haven't seen before. There was nothing that was a real discovery at the moment. It is so clear to see.

Most people will not be able to appreciate how detailed the footage is because it is in 8K resolution, which is much higher than the resolution of most computers and TVs.

The high quality of the footage allowed researchers to get a closer look at the site without having to go underwater. It could be used to create an experience similar to theVincent van Gogh exhibitions that show the artist's work on walls and floors.

The OceanGate trips were compared to space tourism by Mr. Rush. Similar to the space industry, the commercial trips were the first step to expand the use of the submersibles for industrial purposes.

It's a fraction of the cost of going to space and it's very expensive for us to get these ships and go out there. The only way things get done in this world is if there is profit or military need.
