According to a report from Petro-Logistics, Russian oil is still being shipped to the US and other countries that have imposed sanctions on Moscow.
Indian imports of Russian crude soared this year as its refinery took advantage of discounted barrels that the West did not want.
Petro-Logistics said that India imported 583,000 barrels per day of Russian crude from April to June. India's oil product exports have gone up.
It's not easy to prove that the crude being imported by the US and others is Russian oil, but the data can give a strong picture of where it ended up.
The ratio of Russian crude imports versus the runs of specific refiners who imported the crude was taken into account. According to Petro-Logistics, the estimate of Indian product exports could be due to Russian crude oil inputs.
42% of that amount went to countries with sanctions on Russia, including those that aren't related to energy.
The US has a complete ban on Russian oil, while others have not. South Korea imported 31,000 barrels per day, Singapore 23,000 barrels per day, and the US 15000 barrels per day. Russia's oil products were imported by several European countries.
According to Petro-Logistics, the US imports most of its gasoline from India for peak driving season.
It's difficult to know if precise oil from Russia is landing in countries that are not on the sanctions list. The data can at least show where Indian refiners who have Russian crude in their mix are sending their products.
