David Moyes says VAR decision was 'scandalous'

There were disagreements between managers over the use of the video assistant referee on Saturday as several games threw up controversial decisions.

In the 90th minute, West Ham were denied a goal when Maxwel Cornet's effort was ruled out for a foul on mendy in the build-up.

Jesse Marsch was sent off for his reaction to two penalty decisions that did not go his side's way, as well as a goal that Eddie Howe said was a "perfectly good goal."

Alan Shearer said on Match of the Day that players and managers had been let down.

"It's not VAR - let me get this right," said Tony Pulis on the radio. The people who run VAR record the TV footage.

Human beings make the decisions. The referees are stuck in that office.

One time a referee was told to consult the pitchside monitor and stick with their decision.

Brennan Johnson scored from the penalty spot after Michael Oliver awarded it.

Shearer praised Michael Oliver for having the guts to say he was sticking with his decision. He is the first to do it, so expect more of that in the coming weeks.

Who pushed who at St James'?

The two teams played to a stalemate at St James' Park.

Tyrick Mitchell turned the ball into his own net and the referee ruled out a foul by Joe Willock on Vicente Guaita, despite the fact that he pushed Mitchell.

Howe thought it was a foul or a push on Joe Willock in the build-up to the ball coming in.

"Joe's momentum is fixed at that point from his opponent, it then carries him into the goalie." Without that push, Joe wouldn't have been able to go in.

It's a penalty if it's not a goal, so I was surprised with the result.

If it wasn't a clear foul, the keeper would get the ball. The referee made the correct decision.

Willock is going to head that ball, so Mitchell shoves him, Michael Salisbury gets it right, and Lee Mason tells him he has made a howler.

Shearer said that the referee didn't see the best angle of the incident.

Lee Mason is to blame because he is inexperienced. He has had no help from the VAR. VAR is not the problem, it is the people who are using it.

A tale of two penalty calls

I don't know what else to do - Jesse Marsch on VAR 'frustration'

One of the two penalties was given and the other was not.

Ivan Toney opened the scoring with a penalty, which was awarded after a foul by Luis Sinisterra, who was deemed by the VAR to have taken the player first.

"I've got to figure out how to have discussions with the league or with referees to help understand how some decisions are made," said Marsch, who was frustrated the officials did not review the challenge on Summerville.

Even though I probably didn't think a penalty was a penalty, I still spoke with the fourth official.

You don't see that it's reciprocated. I would refer to it as that. There is a lack of respect towards the VAR.

Danny Murphy spoke on Match of the Day. It was a terrible decision because you were expecting the VAR to tell him to go and look and they didn't.

Thomas Frank believed that the refs and the VAR would make a decision. After the game, I saw our own one and it was clear.

An 'absolute shocker' at the Bridge?

Thomas Tuchel agrees with 'lucky' VAR call

The Hammers were denied a late leveller by the referee as they were beaten by the Blues at home.

Tuchel thought there was a foul on his goalkeeper, but he agreed with the decision to disallow the goal for the visitors.

He told Match of the Day that they were fortunate to get the VAR decision in their favor.

After being told to look at the monitor, Andrew Madley decided that there was a foul on the goalkeeper by the other team.

The VAR official was embarrassed by the fact that the goalkeeper fumbled the ball out of his hands. He acted as if he had been injured. The referee was sent to watch it.

It was a huge mistake. The referee should have stuck to his guns and not allowed the VAR to change his mind. At the moment, the refereeing is weak.

Jarrod said he didn't touch the goalie. He jumps him if you watch it. If there was nothing at all, there could have been a trailing foot.

The goal should have stood, it wasn't a foul on Mendy, according to Chris. Fans are upset when they see decisions like that. An absolutely shocking event.

Glenn Murray said that the decisions made by managers make them go grey. I believe that the referee gave that to Edouard Mendy.

Murphy did not think he could say anything out loud. I couldn't find any logic in it.

Shearer said that it was not a foul and that the VAR was not used for that reason.

When VAR was brought in, the maximum benefit was told to us. It is a horrible decision.
