Saint-Maximin celebrates scoring for Newcastle
Frenchman Allan Saint-Maximin snatched a point with a 90th-minute equaliser

The winless Wolves were kept in the bottom three by Allan Saint-Maximin's brilliant 90th-minute volley.

Wolves thought they were going to get their first win of the season when Ruben Neves scored.

Saint-Maximin had something else in mind.

The Frenchman waited on the edge of the area before scoring the sweetest finish that gave the Wolves keeper no chance.

The visitors had two chances to win in the final seconds. First Saint-Maximin brought a fine save from Sa with a powerful shot, then substitute Elliot Anderson hit the bar with a far post headed ball.

The result was a huge blow for Wolves, who thought they had made it 2-0 nine minutes from time, only for the VAR to rule out the goal.

Sensational Saint-Maximin

It wasn't the same point as last week, but it was still a draw. It said a lot about Eddie Howe's character.

Even without new signing Alexander Isak, whose work permit is still to be processed, they still found a way to get something out of a game they couldn't influence.

The Wolves opened with a goal because Joe Willock was too slow to close down Neves.

They didn't allow themselves to be overwhelmed in the way that teams of the past might have been.

In Saint-Maximin, they have a player who can make things happen.

There was little chance of the Korean being punished when the ball fell to the French forward because the home defence had thrown their bodies in front of many half chances.

Sa barely moved before the ball whistled past him into the corner, which was Saint-Maximin's first goal of the season.

It's the first time in four years that they've been without a loss in their first four games.

Neves leads by example

Wolves fail to make the most of their performance

It took them 302 minutes to score their first league goal of the season, but they did it today.

They were led by a great leader.

One of the few remaining members of Nuno Espirito Santo's Championship-winning squad, the Portugal captain was the obvious choice to replace Conor Coady as captain.

Even though Coady is not as vocal, he still has a huge influence on the team.

The 60-yard cross-field pass from inside his own half that allowed Goncalo Guedes the chance to create a decent early opportunity for the lively Pedro Neto was sensational.

They should have been prepared for the 38th-minute goal.

Four of his last five goals have been scored outside the penalty area.

When the game remained in the balance, the sight of him scrapping for possession in the middle of the field typified his approach.

Saint-Maximin's brilliance made it impossible for him and his team to win the game.
