The announcement that House of the Dragon would be renewed for a second season was made this week, but it may have been pushed up by the show's record-setting premiere numbers. It's time to see with that strong of a start.
Critics and fans seem to like the show. The fact that the show has done something right here is a sign that it has done something right. Depending on who you ask, that thing may be replacing David Benioff andDB Weiss with George RR Martin.
Some people were interested in the comments that Martin made last week about Game of thrones moving into the model of the comic books. With how strong House of the Dragon is, it is not a joke. With DC in disarray and Harry Potter being a pariah, it leaves Game ofThrones as a key megafranchise.
There are many Game ofThrones series in the works, most of which are based off Martin's works in some form or another. Martin is on board for that one as well.
The most common praise I have seen for House of the Dragon is that it is full of palace intrigue rather than beingbogged down in battle. At least so far, it has a dramatically slimmed down cast and set of locations, which breaks from the spread-out formula of the show. The story is more focused.
The concept for season 2 is intriguing to me. The second season of House of the Dragon might not follow the same characters again, since the show might be an anthology series. If you spend a whole season getting to know a specific cast, it could push its luck. This is a good start for the idea of a shared Game ofThrones universe across multiple shows, and it has made everyone forget about the horrible finale.
