Hail to the Victors! Michigan ready to build off of last season (1:12)

It's time to get ready for Michigan's season as the team looks to build off of their playoff appearance last season. There is a time and a place for this.

Last season's starter, J.J. McCarthy, is locked in a quarterback competition with last year's starter, Cade McNamara. Jim Harbaugh said that the battle was over.

Harbaugh stated in a statement that McNamara will start the first game of the season against Colorado State and McCarthy will start the second game of the season against Hawai'i.

Harbaugh said that both quarterbacks had done everything they could to win the starting job. We feel very confident that we can win a championship with either of the two quarterbacks, and that's because I think we have both of them.

McNamara helped lead Michigan to its first Big Ten championship under Harbaugh in 2021. When Michigan went 12-2 in 2021, he threw for 2,576 yards, 15 touchdown and 6 pick ups.

In the course of the year, McCarthy threw 59 times for 516 yards and 5 touchdown.

Josh Gattis left for the same position at Miami after he was hired by the Michigan. The position was filled by Matt Weiss and Sherrone Moore.

Michigan and Harbaugh want the quarterback battle to play out on the field.
