A federal judge in Florida told the Justice Department that she intended to appoint a special master in the case after she was given more information about the classified records.
A two-page order from the U.S. District Judge indicates that she is inclined to grant a request from Trump's lawyers, who this week asked for the appointment of an independent special master to review the records taken from Mar-a-Lago
A Thursday hearing was scheduled by the judge. A special master is a judge.
The Justice Department was ordered by Cannon to file under seal with her more detailed descriptions of the material taken from Trump's property. According to the former president's lawyers, investigators didn't give them enough information about what documents were taken when agents searched his home.
The special master appointment is not likely to have a significant effect on the direction of the Justice Department investigation.
