The first major cruise ship to be officially named in the Icelandic capital, the Norwegian Prima, was christened in a star- studded ceremony on Saturday by singer-turned-pop star KATY PERRY

The first ship in the line's new class, Norwegian Prima, was due to leave for five destinations after the ceremony.

The NCL chief executive said that the christening was the culmination of everything they had been preparing for.

Dadi Freyr, the country's entrant in the 2020 and 2021 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, performed at the christening.

The crew on the ship was honoured by the show, as well as the founder of Norwegian Cruise Line who died in 2020.

At the end of the event, she performed some of her biggest hits.

The first voyages will be from the Netherlands to Northern Europe. After sailing to the Caribbean in October and November, the ship will move to its homeports of Port Canaveral, Florida and Galveston, Texas for the next two decades.
