Liverpool celebrate
Liverpool have not suffered consecutive league defeats since March 2021

After the loss at Manchester United, there were harsh words directed towards the team.

They started the season with two draws and a loss, and former vice-captain Jamie Carragher said it was embarrassment.

They came close to immortality last season, winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, but finishing runners-up in the league and losing the final to Real Madrid.

The promotion of Bournemouth gave the Reds a chance to remind their rivals of their credentials, even though they failed to meet high standards so far this season.

That was one of the things that came from the performance ofLiverpool. The Reds produced a display of relentless, attacking football that resulted in a -9 victory that equalled the biggest victory in the history of the league.

  • Liverpool equal record in thrashing of Bournemouth

He pointed to the performance of his team as the reason for the ranking.

The German said that it would not happen often.

It's not that we worked less in the last eight weeks, we were all in a good mood, but you don't get it on the ground."

We need to turn a few other screws. It is great when it happens like today. Everyone should have a nice weekend.

'A perfect football afternoon for us'

It was really not cool to play against us - Klopp

When the Reds defeated Manchester City in the Community Shield, there was hope, but they didn't have the same spark as before.

They were outrun by ten Hag's United at the start of the week and there were suggestions that they might be feeling the effects of last season's disappointing campaign.

They responded to their first loss in the league in five years by demolishing Bournemouth in front of their own fans.

Trent Alexander-Arnold's thunderbolt and Roberto Firmino's close-range finish gave them a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes and they went on to score five times in the rest of the game.

Chris Mepham's own goal was one of four goals scored by the hosts in the second half.

He said that they had to prove a point. We put them under pressure by not holding anything back. We were able to get early goals and keep going.

You have a bitter taste in a wonderful afternoon if you allow them to score a goal. It was a perfect football afternoon for us and we brought the kids.

We need something like that. In other games, we didn't use the bigger chances that we had.

"We had a point to prove after three disappointing games but the main thing was to come out and win and we did it in fantastic fashion."

It is a massive relief for us and our fans to put in a performance and show people who doubted us. We're feeling good.

'It could have been 12, 13, 14'

Roberto Firmino
Before the Bournemouth game, Roberto Firmino had not scored in 20 previous league games at Anfield

Before the game, there had only been three times in the history of the Premier League that a 9-0 result had been achieved.

Firmino reminded people of his ability as he ended a run of 20 games without a goal.

With two goals and three assists, the 30-year-old had a hand in five goals, becoming just the third Reds player after Mohamed and Luis to achieve the feat.

"Firmino has not got the best statistics in terms of goal scoring, but players love playing alongside him because he is such a great team player," Pat Nevin said on the radio show. What a great answer, people thought he was on his way out, but he was still here.

It was sheer torture for Bournemouth. In the forward line, he would look at home. He is great.

There were nine goals and it could have been more. Bournemouth will never have a day like this again.

Toughest and painful day - Parker

'We need new players for sure' - Parker 'shell shocked' after 9-0 defeat

Bournemouth had a victory against Villa on the opening weekend of the season, but lost to the Reds.

The Cherries have conceded the most goals in the top-flight so far and the result was theaviest defeat in their entire league history.

In their last two games, Bournemouth were beaten by Manchester City and by a score of three to nil.

Scott said that this was the most painful day he had ever experienced. I could feel the pain in the touchline for the players. Some of the levels were too great for them to handle.

I was shell-shocked by it. The levels we are playing against are much better than what we have at our disposal. I feel bad for the fans.

It will be difficult to process tonight and it will be a long night. At times, the harsh lessons we are learning are not fair.

The division is ruthless and we don't just talk about the last two games. Some scars can be left by it. Absolutely painful and ruthless.

"At this moment in time, where we currently are, I can see some more to be honest with you."
