Dan Schneider's multi-decade tenure at the network is a blend of massive success and allegations of unsportsmanlike behavior, including toward the many young actors who worked on his shows. During a protest against the treatment of its child stars, one of the stars of Zoey 101 spoke out about Schneider, calling him a " creator of childhood trauma"
Schneider was a writer, producer, and creator on some of the network's most successful shows, includingDrake and Josh, iCarly, Victorious, and several others.
The protest on Thursday coincides with the publication of the memoir I'm Glad My Mom died by i Carly star Jennette McCurdy. The book doesn't talk about Schneider by name, but it does feature numerous stories of a man only referred to as "The Creator," who verbal abuses and manipulates young actors, encouraging them to drink alcohol, scream at them, and give them unwanted back massages. According to the New York Times report, there was no evidence of sexual harassment.
The activist/whistleblowing group EatPredators has branched into TV, but is mostly focused on music industry issues. Nikolas talked about her own physical discomfort around Schneider and called out a time when he and other executives on Zoey 101 brought her into a room alone and yelled at her, then a young teenager, until she cried. A number of people raised concerns about how many non-disclosure agreements former actors on the show have signed.
She accused executives of allowing abusive behavior toward its child stars in her protest.
