When he was a baby, his parents took him to watch the planes take off from their house in Cincinnati, Ohio.

He says in a video chat from his car that he had a Fisher-Price toy plane and that his parents said he knew it was in the sky. I used to sketch pictures of airplanes and think about how to build them.

He worked as a software engineer rather than consider a career in aviation. Scholl is the founder and chief executive of a new aviation company.

Some 23 years after Concorde was destroyed, a new company called Boom Supersonic is promising to start supersonic passenger flights.

The fact that he never got to fly on Concorde is part of his motivation. He said that he was waiting but no one was doing it. My children's grandfather lived in Hong Kong for 18 hours from here. It was too far for both of them. supersonic flights would have allowed them to see their grandpa more often.

Concorde was a technological marvel for the 1960s. But they weren’t focused on the economics. It became too expensive to fly
Blake Scholl

He sold his e- commerce firm to start Boom. He wanted to work on the most important thing that society has to offer, so he wrote a list of possible things to do. If the ideas worked out, he would be happy with them. Supersonic flight was the highest point. It was time to figure out why people didn't like it.

He hired engineers to help turn his vision into reality after concluding that it was possible. The people he hired were paid with the money he made from the sale of his app platform. I put half of my life savings into the business before I realized I was playing chicken with my bank account.

Almost $1m was pumped into the business by investors who had supported his previous venture. The previous investors said that they would always back them.

Other investors wanted to see a successor to Concorde. We really want it to work, even though they said you were probably crazy.

It looks like he has been proven correct. A prototype of the world's only operational, non-military supersonic jet has been built by the company.

A factory will be built later this year that will produce a commercial version. The jets, which promise speeds of up to Mach 1.7 over water, are twice the speed of today's fastest commercial aircraft, but below Concorde's top speed of Mach 2.04 The first flight by the Wright brothers took place in North Carolina.

American Airlines became the third airline to place an order. Last year, United Airlines and Virgin Atlantic formed a partnership. Up to 20 of the planes will be bought by American Airlines, with an option for 40 more.

The 65 seats on the Overture are priced at business-class rates. Between 90 and 128 passengers were allowed in the Concorde.

The aircraft could fly about 600 routes around the world, according to Scholl. The time it would take to fly from London to New York is three and a half hours.

He thinks Boom can succeed because his jets will be much more efficient than Concorde's. He says that eventually tickets will be the same price as airline tickets.

Concorde was a technological marvel in the 1960's. It became too costly to fly because they weren't focused on economics. The cost of a return flight from London to New York was $12,000 before Air France Flight 4590 crashed. Now all the technology is more efficient and we can get the cost down.

Boom wants to achieve net zero carbon dioxide and net zero greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2025. Planes will fly on sustainable aviation fuel.

Even though he was interviewing potential recruits in his basement, he says attracting talented engineers has been simpler than he thought. He says that Boom was the only one in the industry who didn't get excited about either rocket or supersonic flight. People were able to leave good jobs.

I am a father of four and was an only child.

I received a degree in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University in 2001.

Pay isn't the only reason you're at the wrong job.

I flew my kids on a trip across the western US last summer. I enjoy sharing my passion for flight with my children.

He was told that people who think they can change the world are the ones that do.

He uses the word "subsonic". "Anything that is too slow is what I call it."

Spending time with his family is how he relaxes.

Two of the first 10 people we hired shut down their businesses.

His parents were worried when he dropped out of high school. He was sent to the best public high school in the state by his parents. I didn't feel like I fit in.

His parents sent him to science summer camps. He went to a camp for six weeks in the past. He remembers that he was surrounded by people who cared about what he cared about. People who were passionate were helping me learn. I had a home.

He went from a high school dropout to a college student after finding a programme at a university that allows people who haven't finished high school to apply.

He says that you need to write an essay about why you didn't finish high school. He wrote that he didn't have anything left to learn at high school. He graduated with a degree in computer science.

He set out to work for Jeff Bezos, the world's most successfulentrepreneur. I got in touch with a person at Amazon who was interested in working on personalising retailing. He was hired as a software engineer when he was 21. He was working on projects under the supervision of Bezos. He says he had to keep his leadership team up to date. It was a challenge but it was also inspiring.
