President Joe Biden has just canceled student debt, but New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez doesn't believe he should stop there.
On Wednesday, Biden finally took a step toward fulfilling a core part of his campaign pledge by announcing up to $20,000 in student-debt cancellation for people who make under $125,000 a year. Biden said that this would be a one-time relief, but that doesn't mean that's enough.
Biden's student-loan forgiveness was the result of your pushing, your pressure, and your organizing, according to a post by Alexandria-Cortez. It's up to us to decide if we're going to keep going or stop.
She said that the first step has already changed many people's lives. I'm thinking about how this leaves a question mark for those in the highest amounts of debt, who need the most help. Let's celebrate and continue.

Since Wednesday, the White House has said that there won't be any more broad relief and that the administration will focus on targeted programs. Fox News obtained a letter from nearly 100 Republican lawmakers asking Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to take action against Biden for overstepping his authority with student-loan relief.
Insider has spoken to over two dozen other borrowers who will not see a change in their loan amounts after the relief.
A person with over $300,000 in student debt said it was not a drop in the bucket. If you wanted to make a difference, you could do away with half the interest, but I will never be able to cover the payments.
