  • Earlier this year, Instagram introduced Sensitive Content Controls to help keep teens away from potentially sensitive content.
  • The new options are listed as "More," "Standard," and "Less."
  • Users under 18 years of age won't have access to "More," while those under 16 will be defaulted to "Less."

Teens under a certain age will be less likely to see sensitive content on the platform.

Changes to its sensitive content controls are being made. The purpose of the change is to keep teens away from potentially sensitive content and encourage those already on the platform to change their settings.

There are three settings for the sensitive content controls. More users will be able to view sensitive content on the platform, while less users will be able to hide most of it. Users under the age of 18 are not allowed to use the more option.

Teens under the age of 16 will only be able to sign up for less. The move will make it harder for young people to find potentially sensitive content on the app. Teens under the age of 16 that are already on the app will get a prompt that encourages them to change their settings.

New ways will be tested to encourage teens to review their privacy settings. An image shows a prompt in the notifications tab that suggests the user review someone else's content.

Teens will be given additional settings to review, including who can send them messages, the type of content they can see, and how much time they spend on the app.

There have been changes made to encourage safer browsing for teens. If the app learns that teens have been viewing the same content for too long, it will give them a push to go somewhere else. If a teen has watched Reels for a long time, it's time to take a break.

With parental controls on the app, parents can be reassured that their teens are using the app in a safe way.
