The team said on Friday that they had agreed to a contract extension with Tyler Glasnow.

This year, he's made $5.1 million. He would have been eligible for free agency in the first year he got $5.35 million, but he will get $25 million in the second year.

It seems to be a good partnership. I'm happy I can talk about it. I really want to be a part of this opportunity. I am not ready to leave yet. I am where I want to be.

The pitcher would get $1 million for winning the Cy Young Award, $500,000 for winding up second and $250,000 for finishing in the top five. If you make the All-Star team, there is a $50,000 bonus and a $1 million assignment bonus.

It gives me a lot of confidence to know that they are willing to give me a contract of this size. I want this to be a deal. I would like to beat it by a lot.

The ace had Tommy John surgery in August of 2016 and didn't play in a game for the rest of the year.

The 29-year-old threw 21 pitches to a pair of minor leaguers before Tuesday's game.

The Rays are in the lead of the American League's wild card race. With the end of the regular season less than a month away, Glasnow isn't ruling out a return.

It's going to be difficult for me to make a decision. I want to return. I want to help the team but I won't jeopardize my career.

The top of the rotation would get a boost with the addition of a healthy Glasnow.

The president of baseball operations said that the two pitchers were doing that the year before. It is exciting to think about the other guys and what they are doing.
