Sources told Adam that the Bills will not dress Matt Araiza for Friday's preseason game against the Carolinas.
The kicker and long-snapper ran onto the field before the announcement. Araiza traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina, for the game, but he wasn't with them.
Matt Haack was released by the Bills on Monday in order to make room for Araiza. The backup quarterback and backup quarterback were practicing punts. The backup quarterback and safety were getting ready.
Araiza and two of his San Diego State teammates are accused in a lawsuit of rape, gender violence and false imprisonment.
According to the lawsuit, Araiza, who was 21 at the time, had sex with the then-high school senior, who was under the age of consent in California, outside at an off-campus party held at his residence. Zavier Leonard, a redshirt freshman with the Aztecs, and Nowlin Ewaliko, who was a freshman last season but is no longer on, are two of the men named in the suit.
The Los Angeles Times reported that rape allegations against five San Diego State football players had not been investigated by the school. The San Diego Police Department requested that the school not take any action because of the investigation into the incident.
According to the Bills statement, they were recently made aware of a civil complaint against Matt. The matter was thoroughly examined due to the seriousness of the complaint. We don't have anything else to say as this is a civil case.
Araiza was drafted by the Bills in the sixth round of the NFL draft.
