Man Discovers 82-Foot Dinosaur Skeleton in Backyard

A huge dinosaur fossil was found in a man's backyard.

The University of Lisbon released a statement about the beast. The property owner contacted the research team at the university after discovering bone fragments in his yard. The first excavation campaign took place in Pombal, Portugal, and researchers returned this year to continue the work.

A sauropod is almost 40 feet tall and has an extraordinary length. The fossil is between 100 and 160 million years old, so it is in good shape.

A researcher at the University of Lisbon said that it is not normal to find all the ribs of an animal like this. In the fossil record of dinosaurs, this mode of preservation is rare.

The Portuguese Late Jurassic species of Lusotitan atalaiensis is one of the most recognizable species in their group.
