A group of teens accused of attacking a Chinese student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison have not been charged with a hate crime.

The victim, who suffered minor injuries, recalled his traumatic experience along University Avenue on Weibo. He said he came across a group of men who surrounded him, hit him in the face, shoved him to the ground and kicked him.

Four people have been arrested in connection with the incident and other similar cases. All four of them have been charged with battery and disorderly conduct.

Carter has been accused of criminal damage to property. They all pleaded not guilty to their charges during a court appearance in August.

The group is accused of attacking a PhD student before targeting another Chinese undergrad. The victim said a group of people threw fruit at him.

The attacks against the two Chinese students convinced the Asian American community that they were racist. The group is accused of attacking White and Hispanic victims two days before the incidents were reported.

There have been over 6,600 hate incidents since March 2020.

Many Asian students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison have protested against the university's treatment of the cases. A man is said to have targeted an Asian staff member with racial slurs.

There will be a pre- trial conference on October 3. It is not known if the 15-year-old suspect will face charges for the attacks.
